For the past three weeks we have been focusing on feelings in guidance class. Students have learned the four main feelings groups: happy, upset, suprised, and calm. We have practiced recognizing feelings reflected in our bodies. Students have learned how feelings are constantly changing. We read the book Big Al to show how feelings can change. We made feelings wheels which students brought home. This week we read the book I Was So Mad. We have discriminated between mild and strong feelings and identified three calming strategies (put your hand on your belly and say "Calm Down", take deep breathes, and slowly count out loud.) Next week we will continue to practice calming strategies as well as sharing feelings.
