While Mrs. Couture was out sick yesterday the kindergarten read the book Miss Nelson is Missing and then wrote to the prompt "Mrs. Couture is missing!" Here is what they had to say:
"Mrs. Couture is gone coloring her hair!"
"Mrs. Couture went to ballet!"
"Mrs. Couture went to Mars and she came back and she went to ballet lessons!"
"She went to Sanduball, but just making fun of you!"
"Mrs. Couture went to a play."
"Is Mrs. Couture staying home?"
"Mrs. Couture got gobbled up by a shark and her sons and her dog but everybody was alive in the belly."
"Mrs. Couture is walking her puppy."

Math With A Rekenrek
On Wednesday we worked with the GISU math consultant to use and then make something called a rekenrek. A rekenrek is a math tool used to practice the conceptual understanding of numbers. There are 10 beads on the top and ten on the bottom. The first 5 on each row are red and the next 5 are white. There are endless learning opportunities to be had with a rekenrek! While he was here Mr. Jemison helped us notice the many ways to count with a rekenrek including by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as how to build and recognize different numbers. After that we made our own for future classroom activities.

100 Hershey Kiss Hunt
We went on a Hershey kiss hunt in our classroom today. While the kids were at lunch I was busy in the classroom hiding 100 Hershey kisses. Each kiss had a numeral on the bottom. Students found a kiss, read the numeral ,and matched it to a 100 chart until they were all found. We finished the activity with a kiss to eat!

Writing Workshop
We shared our work with the document camera today.Students were able to put their work on the big screen and then use the pointer to track the print as they read their words to the class.
This sharing provided us with the opportunity to read our own writing, practice one-to-one matching by tracking the print, reading from left to write as well as top to bottom, and taking pride in our work.
We talked about what we noticed about each others writing including if people used spaces between their words, wrote a sentence, started with an upper-case letter and included punctuation.
In our classroom sharing your writing is always a choice. It was exciting that children who had never tried sharing their work wanted to share today. We had a great time sharing and learning with each other!
