One of our biggies during reading workshop is being book lovers, not book bullies. Here are some examples of kids doing just that.

Pattern Block Designs

This work place has students copy designs from printed cards, first with real blocks and then by recording with pattern block stickers. This allows us to move from 2 to 3 dimensional. It also allows us to practice recognizing and naming shapes, counting, taking shapes apart and fitting them back together, and exploring relationships between various shapes.

Leaf Man

We read and explored the book Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. If you have never seen this book, check it out, it is amazing! The kids and I were amazed and inspired by the pictures which were made with leaves. So, of course, we went outside to collect leaves to create our own pictures. 

Community Service

We have been very busy helping out right in our own backyard planting bulbs in the school garden. Mrs. Warren supplied the bulbs and we went to work! We are excited to have contributed to the beauty of our school and now have another reason to look forward to Spring :)

Beat You To Ten

We have been playing this game for a few weeks during math workplace time, and we love it! When playing students spin a spinner with the numerals 0-3. They then read the numeral and count out that amount of Unifix cubes and place them on the game board. The board consists of two stacks of 5 for each player. The first player to reach 10 wins! Not only is this game fun but while playing we are practicing important skills like counting to 10,comparing quantities, reading numbers to 10, and adding 2 or more quantities. 

Guest Readers

We were lucky enough to have two second graders pick us as their PBIS reward! Of all the choices they had, these two picked reading to the kindergarten. A great experience for all!!!!
