Shape Play-Doh Mats

We are learning about shapes and the properties of each shape. Today, we used play-doh mats to create shapes.

Hackett's Orchard Field Trip

We had a great time at the orchard on Friday. We were able to answer many of the research questions we generated at school, as well as learn about the orchard and the importance of natural resources like apples.

Mentor Text

A mentor text is a book we use when learning about reading and writing. Today, in Writing Workshop, we used "The Best Story" by Eileen Spineli. It is a story about a girl trying to think of a contest-winning-story. She takes a lot of suggestions before she discovers the best story comes from your own heart. We thought of so many story ideas from our hearts!

Read By The Pictures

During Reading Workshop we practiced reading - by the pictures. During our mini lesson I modeled by reading "No David" by David Shannon with the pictures. I then gave students a choice of three books to try it out themselves.

Writing Workshop

The components of our writing workshop include a meeting (mini lesson), writing, and sharing. We talked today about what the teacher and the students are doing during "meeting" time. We decided the teacher is telling something new for us to try during writing time and the students are listening, discussing, practicing and learning.

Where Readers Read

Today we talked about where readers read! After reading "The Best Place To Read" by Debbie Bertram and brainstorming  our own personal favorite places to read, we quickly realized that readers read everywhere!!! After that we each found a cozy spot to read in our classroom and practiced "read to self" aka "silent reading."
