We are practicing warming up with a picture walk before reading new stories. We used a new anchor chart to remind us what it looks like and sounds like when we are "warming up" with a good book. Here is what our chart says:
I can warm up before I begin reading!
First we, look at the pictures and the title of the book.
Then we say to ourselves, "What might this book be about?" And "What hints do the title, cover, pictures and words give me?"
Last we use that to say what the whole book is about.
After some whole group modeling we were ready to practice with partners.
This activity helps us with the following common core standards:
RI.K.5 - Identify the front cover, back cover and the title page of a book
RL.K.7- With prompting and support describe the relationship between illustrations and the story inwhich they appear
