Patterns
Today in Reading Workshop we practiced talking about the pattern in a book with a partner. It is amazing how a story pattern can help us read books because we know what to expect.
It was great way to help with a couple of kindergarten Common Core standards:
RL.K.5: recognize common types of text
RL.K.7: with prompting and support describe the relationship between illustrations and the story in which they appear

Writing Narratives
We used three books today to connect our learning of writing personal narratives with our exploration of family. We enjoyed the stories and then discussed how the authors of each book used details to create a story about an everyday event in the life of a family.

Author's Celebration
We are authors! As authors we are able to . . . .
work independently
use writing tools such as alphabet charts and word walls
stretch out words and write down the sounds we hear
spell the best we can and keep going
And even read back our own writing!
These are very exciting times in the kindergarten, and we thought all of our hard work was worthy of a celebration. We celebrated by sharing some of our favorite pieces as a whole group and in small groups and then had a toast with juice!
